This study investigates the critical intersection of cybersecurity and environmental protection, aiming to identify and analyze strategies for safeguarding environmental systems against cyber threats. With the increasing reliance on digital technologies for environmental monitoring and protection, the vulnerability of these systems to cyber-attacks has become a pressing concern. The study’s objectives include defining the scope of cybersecurity within environmental systems, reviewing the evolution of cybersecurity practices in this context, analyzing current challenges and threats, exploring innovative cybersecurity strategies, and evaluating the role of international standards and regulatory frameworks. Employing a systematic literature review and content analysis methodology, this research scrutinizes peer-reviewed articles, conference proceedings, and official reports published from 2000 to 2024. The selection criteria focused on works that explicitly address cybersecurity challenges and innovations within environmental protection contexts. The analysis reveals a growing recognition of the need for robust cybersecurity measures to safeguard environmental data and infrastructure. Key findings highlight the importance of adopting a multi-layered security approach, integrating advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence and blockchain, and aligning with international cybersecurity standards to enhance the resilience of environmental systems. The study concludes that strategic collaboration among global stakeholders, continuous innovation in cybersecurity practices, and adherence to regulatory frameworks are essential for protecting environmental systems in the digital age. These efforts are crucial for ensuring the sustainability and integrity of environmental protection efforts worldwide.
